The U.S. Senate has pushed back a key vote on a bill that would delay some of the flood insurance rate hikes triggered by the Biggert-Waters Flood Insurance Reform Act of 2012.

Instead of this week, U.S. Sen. Mary Landrieu (D-La.), a bill co-sponsor, told a reporter that “next week is more realistic” for voting on the flood bill.

The procedural vote will determine whether the Senate will go ahead with debate on the Homeowner Flood Insurance Affordability Act (S.1846). A total of 60 votes are required to move the measure to the floor for a “yes-no” vote.

Sponsoring the bill is U.S. Sen. Robert Menendez (D-N.J.). The bill has 20 Democratic and 8 Republican co-sponsors. A group of senators, primarily from coastal states, recently held a pres

s conference to drum up support for the bill.
